Wuhan, China
In prominent location, right at the crossing of XinHua West Road and XinHua Xia Road, between Wanda Commercial and Residential Complex and the Linjiao Lake Park, the Xinhua Bookstore retail and office development will create a new gateway to the city of Wuhan.
The diagram is simple and clear: on a triangular site stand two crystalline towers just like diamonds. They are cladded with a facetted and shimmering façade that form a strong icon and on the same time contemporary landmark in the city.
Two pedestrian bridges link the Diamond Towers with the adjacent park and allow a good public access into the retail area.
The towers rise above a three storey base building designed for shopping and retail. The retail is linked with the neighbouring Wanda Commercial and Residential Complex via an underground link.
Both towers offer views over the park and the Wuhan city skyline. They have highly efficient floor plans that provide layout flexibility, as needed by the client.
The top floors are used as sky lobby and roof gardens that allow panoramic views over Wuhan and into the park.
The green building façade is facetted and it transmits an image of precision and high value, just like two diamonds next to each other. The façade is aesthetic and efficient at the same time. Energy consumption can be reduced, due to the double skin glazing and sun blends which allow ideal working and living conditions in the buildings.
